Interviewer: What about your driver’s license? That’s affected as well when you’re arrested and charged with DUI.
Acacia Law: Correct. It’s a civil proceeding. We handle those in conjunction with the criminal case but it’s a civil or administrative procedure pursuant to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Courts cannot suspend your driver’s license; all they can do is submit forms to the motor vehicle department, who then will take action to suspend a person’s driver’s licence.
